En route: South Korea

Seoul is an amazing city. I went there a few months ago for a press junket and I've fallen in love with the city ever since. I had the chance to visit Seoul once again last week, and I made sure Gerard joined me in my trip.

This was Gerard's first "real" trip. The whole 'departure-arrival-airplane-baggage' thing was new to him... and the mere thought of metal detectors in airports made his legs tremble. So I reserved a comfortable seat for Gerard...inside my bag. I was so excited to show him the randomness of Seoul.

Nimu lent me her instax camera for souvenir shots but she ran out of film. I took 3 instax photos with Nimu's camera and, since I haven't been converted to analog photography just yet, the rest were from my ever reliable digicam.

This was at Cafe Hoho Myoll, such a wonderful charming coffee place at Hongdae. Gerard loved this arty Korean area because there were a lot of young people and it has an independent vibe. It reminded him of Cubao X but only in a bigger aspect. He loved Cafe Hoho Myoll so much and he can't wait to go back.

The cafe was decorated with random items and Gerard really submerged himself in all that adorable cuteness. It was quite overwhelming, really.

More cuteness...

He ordered a warm banana crumble muffin and a mocha-flavored coffee...so tasty good! *burp*

The coffee and drinks were made inside the cutest VW bus inside the cafe. Before leaving, Gerard felt all touristy so he wanted a souvenir inside the VW bus "kitchen"... really, really cute!!!

Gerard was able to experience all that spicy goodness at a Korean restaurant in Myeong-dong! Free-flowing kimchi was served. And he loved how he was able to cook his own food...

This meal was a mix of chicken, cabbage, mushroom and rice cake with that traditional spicy sauce Koreans just slather on almost any kind of food.

Ahh, the Locks of Love at Namsan Tower. Gerard felt all romantic. Lovers come here to "lock" their love with a padlock on a fence--symbolizing the promise to stay together forever. Gerard has yet to find the love of his life but the thought of bringing someone here made him all giddy. The place is high up a mountain and you could almost see all of Seoul. Pretty scary if you're afraid of heights!

Gerard also went to Changdeokgung Palace. He didn't take the private tour though because it was too expensive but he just went around by himself, maveling over its majesty.

He thought it would be nice to come here during the winter when all is cold and white.

Not knowing its history, he walked around the palace imagining stories of a Korean princess with a secret lover, a warrior perhaps, and together they hide in these walls, discreetly professing their love for each other.

This is Yeoksam area, a station away Gangnam, where Gerard would go home to after doing all the touristy stuff. Very metropolitan. But still quite charming because streets are lined with trees.

Chew, drink, stroll, talk, and laugh. That's what Gerard and I did during our 5-day trip in Seoul, and it was the happiest days of our lives.

Annyeong Haseyo!!

Gerard goes to South Korea!
 Will post photos soon! :)

Gerard likes traveling a lot and wants to travel the whole world! If he gets the chance, he wants to try out sky diving or bungee jumping at Bloukrans Bridge, South Africa.

World Photography Day

August 19 marks the World Photography Day, when everyone is celebrating photography and remembers how special a photograph can be.

Photographs have a special part in Gerard's life. Photographs remind him of special events in the past. It captured his good, bad, and unpleasant moments. But most importantly, photographs inspired both Nimu and Gerard to start this blog! And what's a perfect way to show their instax camera some love? By posting photos of course!

Let's play a game called Spot Gerard. The rule is simple: find Gerard.

Celebrate photography! Register and join  World Photography Day.

Gerard, the Planker

Planking is a game or activity of lying face down stiff as a board with arms to the sides in unusual or unique places.

It is blowing up the news and internet today, and Gerard thinks "planking" is funny (and...err...the most stupid thing he ever heard of) and wanted to try some himself. But instead of placing his arms to the side the way "plankers" used to do it, he put his fists in front of his chest because he has no joints hahaha!

Note: No robots, humans and animals were harmed in the making of these planking photos.

There ya go! Gerard's planking photos! He felt nothing special afterward, and his foot also dipped into the coffee cup, slightly burning his metal toes. Yikes! So just a Gerard Reminder: Safety First!

Hokage

Gerard was comfortably sitting on his bed while watching Naruto on an electronic picture tube device called "television". He just started watching the first episodes of Naruto a few weeks ago... and he was instantly hooked. Like Gerard, Naruto is a little man with big dreams. Naruto wants to become a hokage of Konoha-gakure.

Gerard went to a toy store and came across a life-size Naruto action figure. And just like any other fan, he did a "pa-kodak" moment with Naruto. Simple joys!

Rainy Day Playlist

Gerard's been hibernating for almost a week now because of the cold weather and non-stop rainfall. Brrrrrr....

He can't decide, though, if he loves or hates this kind of weather. He hates it because, instead of going out to search for new adventures, he's stuck at home doing boring chores like cleaning his room and organizing his photo album a.k.a Life.

But just like any other sprocket on a rainy day, Gerard loves stay in his metal bunk bed, listen to music, and do NOTHING! That's why he finally came up with his very own 'rainy day playlist.'

Gerard's very own rainy day playlist:

1. Closer - Travis

2. Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
3. Naked As We Came - Iron & Wine
4. The Blower's Daughter - Damien Rice

What's your rainy day song?

Letter to NiMu

Nimu was having a rough week. It was like she's walking deep in the forest...it was dark...giant rooks watched her from the dead trees...she hears creatures breathing beneath the shadows and bushes...wild boars ready to attack her.

But a letter gave her hope:

In the end, the letter brought a smile to Nimu.

Tower Power

One cozy afternoon...

Leo Lego is Gerard's next door neighbor. He invited Gerard over to his place to play Jenga.
Leo is a structural engineer.

FYI: Leo Lego helped build the Nakagin Capsule Tower* in Tokyo, Japan. Jenga is a tower building game. The game's rule is simple: just stack the blocks into a tower without letting it fall. But who can play a Jenga game better than an engineer, right?

*click the link to see Nakagin Capsule Tower. It looks like giant Jenga tower! Now Gerard is doomed!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It's been raining for two straight days now, and Gerard was getting bored inside his room doing nothing. All he could hear were the raindrops on the roof and his metal stomach grumbling for food. So, with an umbrella on hand, he went out to buy some Aluminum Potchi candies, Steel Piattos, and Oily Royal at the sari-sari store across the street.

To his horror, he was surprised to see that all streets were flooded!!

Gerard must cross the street to buy food. The flood must be 5 inches deep, filled with muck, trash and other unrecognizable gross micro-organisms known to mankind... it's more than enough to drown Gerard, and might make his internal screws rusty, or even cause him robophantitis*!  So he figured he'd make himself a paper boat.

Will the paper boat carry Gerard's weight? Will it help him cross the flood? Will he able to buy and munch Aluminum Potchi Candies? What's underneath the cold, dark-looking flood?

*robophantitis -  enlargement of the internal screws when contaminated water is swallowed .

Back to School

Gerard always sharpens his pencils every first day of school. Using a big red sharpener, he carefully turns the handle to achieve the perfect point. And even though he's not in school anymore, Gerard still wakes up early on the first Monday of June to sharpen his Mongol #2 pencils.

Happy First Day of School, guys!!

Upside Down

What would happen if your world is upside down? Gerard wanted to see...so he did a headstand. He did it for like two minutes. He also tried to read words upside down. But before Gerard could say "foot long", he felt his oil rushed to this head and his green face turned red. Poor, Gerard!

Good Luck Chucks

"5 more to go..."

Books and a Bee

Gerard remembered his first time stepping into a bookstore. Every bookstore in Robo Planet smells almost the same—the paper, ink and sometimes a hint of glue. It was a magical experience when he explored a bookstore named "Power Books". He loved the sight and smell of books that were old and those that were "fresh from the press". He wanted to buy a book called Robot Dreams (he happens to like Murakami, too!).
Gerard got lost for hours in the maze of shelves, secret passageways and walls lined with neatly-stacked piles of books! Good thing he met a pink bumblebee, named Wanna. Wanna gave him directions on his way out. Gerard felt something strange that moment... "Is this love-at-first-sight?"...but he realized that he just got stung by a bee.

Random Friday, Friday!

Gerard hates that "Friday" song. He hates Rebecca Black. He thinks that the lyrics, "Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday / Today Friday, Friday / Tomorrow is Saturday / And Sunday comes after... wards" is well, dumb.

Learning about arts and crafts from "Edward Scissorhands", he thought Rebecca Black desperately needed a makeover.

With a little help from McVak (Macross VF-1 Valkyrie).

A little mustache here...thick eyebrows...what do you think?

Random Thursday

The weather was really hot most of the time, yet Gerard was lucky to catch a warm and sunny morning. He decided to visit a rooftop of a random building. Gerard could hear sound of cars and tricycles ran up the road below. He was still contemplating on how to be famous, and if Optimus Prime have already received his fan letter.

At the other end of the rooftop he noticed a guy (with no expression on his face) was smoking a cigarette.

Wilver is an art director. He loves adventures too. He recently went to Boracay. He told Gerard to go there for some "reflective moments". Gerard mentioned that he's never really been to the beach.

Why?

Gerard secret revealed: Gerard is afraid of too much sun exposure. His neon green arms will turn moss green, while his bright red legs will turn deep scarlet like this...

Solution: Mechanical Sunblock with SPF300 +Wax moisturizer.
But he's clueless where to get it! Help him find one PLEASE!!!!

Random Wednesday

On his way to the store 'round the corner to buy more Nips, Gerard was pondering on how he can be famous like all the other robot-celebs out there.

Gerard's thought bubble: What do they have that I don't? Is it because of the ability of the Transformers to become vehicles? I'd be freaked out the car I'm driving suddenly turns upright and speak! Or is it because of R2D2's cool voice? Any random robot can do that! Then there's Metro Man... sheesh. Even the name sounds too corny. His looks remind me of Johnny Bravo!

A few moments later...

Gerard: Could that be..... Metro Man? I was just thinking how... er... cool you are! You're so…. white!
Metro Man: Hey there, Gerard! I read your blog, it's cool. But I'm not here to be in your blog.
Gerard: Okay, that sounded a little weird. Nice car by the way.
Metro Man: I'm a little rusty too. Megamind and I've been waiting for a villain to threaten Metro City. It's been a week!  I was thinking if you could help me lose weight. Teach me your dance moves.

Gerard: Umm..sure. Just raise both elbows like this…and swing your arms left to right...
Metro Man: [imitates Gerard]

Random Tuesday

"Oh sh*t! 5 pesos down the drain. Now, what?"

Choose 1 answer:
a. Gerard will not eat the candies
b. He'll think "wala pang-5 minutes" and eat the candies anyway
